The Bishop’s Waltham Gardening Club (BWGC) has a long and integrated history rooted in local horticultural traditions. Originally founded as the Bishop’s Waltham Horticultural Society, the organisation evolved through mergers and collaborations with other local groups, such as the Bishop’s Waltham Allotment Association, to adapt to the changing needs of the village.

For decades, the club’s activities centered around a highly competitive Annual Show, once a staple of the post-war annual carnival, where professional and amateur gardeners vied for prestigious cups, and unique prizes like fresh trout were famously raffled.

Today, as a registered charity affiliated with the Royal Horticultural Society, the club has transformed from a formal society into a vibrant community of over 320 members, continuing its legacy of promoting horticultural education and social welfare through gardening.
